Who We Are
The National Disaster Management Agency (formerly the National Emergency Relief Organization (NERO) is the organization responsible for coordinating all disaster-related activities in Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique.
In 2005, it was renamed via Cabinet conclusion to better reflect the agency’s expanded and redefined mandate towards disaster risk reduction and management. NaDMA is a department within the Ministry of National Security, Public Administration, Home Affairs, Information, and Disaster Management.
National Disaster Organization
The National Disaster Organization (NDO) encompasses all entities that play a part in disaster preparedness, response, relief, recovery, and all other aspects of disaster management in Grenada.
The National Emergency Advisory Council
The National Emergency Advisory Council (NEAC) is responsible for providing policy direction for the National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA). The Council meets once every quarter. It comprises the following offices
NaDMA's Core Functions
NADMA’s operations aligns with the mandate of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency, which promotes a comprehensive approach to DRM that includes the management off all hazards, by all people through all phases of the disaster cycle.
Informing
A core function is ensuring people and organizations have the knowledge they need to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies, including guidance on how to seek help when required.
Warning
Another key function involves analyzing potential emergencies and developing systems that maximize warning time and accuracy, benefiting both those at risk and emergency responders.
Coordination
A central role is establishing mechanisms that facilitate the efficient use of resources during emergencies and disasters, ensuring everyone works together effectively.
Providing
We are responsible for securing and maintaining necessary resources, including diverting regular supplies when needed to address the demands of an emergency or disaster.
Evaluating
Finally, a critical function is to regularly review our performance to identify areas for improvement and ensure we can best serve the community in future emergencies.
